Manaia the Moa

Brief

Auckland Museum gave MDS the opportunity to work on an extended collaboration, intended for educational purposes only.

Auckland Museum primarily relies on "Tap and Give" machines for most visitor contributions. Aim to develop a strategy to boost funding by using these machines in a way that enhances the visitor experience while encouraging donations.

Solution

Our group responded to the brief with a fun, interactive campaign and installation centered around Manaia the Moa.

The campaign takes the form of a scavenger hunt across Auckland, where visitors follow Manaia’s trail as she escapes the museum to find her friends. The journey ends in an installation where Manaia returns, bringing her friends back with her.

Visitors are encouraged to donate to "bring Manaia’s friends to life" on a projection screen. This experience offers participants who have followed Manaia’s adventure the chance to add their own unique touch by seeing one of her friends come to life through their contribution.

Involvement

As one of two graphic designers, we worked closely to ensure a consistent visual direction. This speculative brief focused on clear concept communication.

My contributions included creating mock-ups, installation screen elements, and campaign collateral.
